Siyabonga Ceramics

The beautiful colours and designs of Siyabonga Ceramics are inspired by elements of Africa. The ceramic objects such as figures, tiles and tableware are made from clay and other raw materials by the process of pottery and then hand-painted, creating a beautiful art piece desired in every home.

Every piece is uniquely decorated by free-hand and includes African themes inspired by the sunset, desert and sea of the Mother land. The ceramics are stoneware fired to 1220 degrees Celsius and glazed with a lead-free transparent solution, making the products oven proof, microwave and dishwasher safe. Custom designs and request are also welcome as every piece is hand made by our local artist, Siyabonga.

From humble beginnings in the township of Khayelitsha, Siyabonga grew up surrounded by creativity. With a father and two brothers who were passionate about art, Siyabonga’s love for painting began at an early age. In 1998, Siyabonga enrolled at the College of Cape Town where he studied Art. He was introduced to ceramics in 1999 and his love affair with this specific skill grew from there. Siyabonga won a few prestigious awards for sculptures and posters he designed and graduated as the best N2 student in his first year.

“I don’t think about a design before I start. I let the clay talk to me and together wecreate magic”

After college, Siyabonga found work in Kalk Bay but after 4 years he decided to get back to the books and further his studies; focusing on Business Management and Skills. This gave Siyabonga an opportunity to freelance – both nationally and internationally; giving him the competitive edge he needed to succeed.
